Replacement of the Sports Pavilion at the Playing
Field
It has become increasingly obvious that the sports
pavilion at the playing field is in urgent need of some attention.
Over the years, upkeep and repair has been carried out
mostly on a voluntary basis minimising costs to the
village. At the same time, the village has expanded to such a point that
additional ‘community’ space may be required for certain activities. For
instance, when our French friends come for twinning visits, for school
presentation events (the school hall is not able to accommodate the number of
children and parents with the numbers at the present levels), cricket club
social events – there are many examples of uses to which improved facilities
could be put. The village preschool is anxiously looking for a more
permanent home and an after school club or youth club is also a
possibility. Therefore, the proposal is that the current pavilion be
replaced with a new Sports Pavilion / Community Centre as soon as possible as
much of the remedial work now necessary is beyond economic viability for an
almost untenable building.
At the present time, the option most favoured is to
construct a new building to satisfy the needs of the wider community. The aim is to expand the area of land at the
same time, to a limited extent.
To date, there have been a few meetings at which
interested parties have been able to put across their point of view and where
members of the wider community have been able to ask questions.
We now need to find out what the village thinks of
this idea, what people would be looking for from the new community centre and
who are the likely users.
Suggestions to date have included: permanent home for pre-school, after school
and holiday club, internet café, football facilities, badminton, youth club and
a large function room. There are
doubtless many more ideas – let us have yours!
We would very much appreciate it if you could take the
time to complete the attached questionnaire.
There are no wrong answers or silly ideas – we want to know the scope of
the ‘wish list’ of the people who will be using this new facility. It may not be possible to grant all requests from
the start and have all facilities in place from day one, but provision could be
made in the overall preparation process.
